Overview

The Kuari Pass Trek, also known as the Lord Curzon Trail, is a captivating trek in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. Renowned for its stunning panoramic views, this trek traces the footsteps of Lord Curzon, the former Viceroy of India, who explored the region in the early 1900s. The journey typically commences from the village of Joshimath, ascending through enchanting rhododendron and oak forests, charming meadows, and remote villages. As trekkers progress towards the Kuari Pass, situated at an altitude of around 3,650 meters (12,000 feet), they are treated to breathtaking vistas of some of the most iconic peaks in the region, including Nanda Devi, Kamet, and Trishul. The Kuari Pass offers a mesmerizing 360-degree view of the surrounding Himalayan range. The trek is dotted with alpine lakes, lush meadows, and diverse flora and fauna, providing a perfect blend of natural beauty and adventure. Detailed Day Wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Haridwar to Joshimath (298 km)

    Drive to Joshimath via Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnprayag and Nandprayag, The most famous confluences of Garhwal Himalayas.
    Lunch enroute.
    Arrival at Joshimath by evening. Check in to hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

  • Day 2 : Joshimath to Chitrakhana (3310 mts/10857 ft)

    Wake up early and refresh yourself with a delicious breakfast and take a 12 Km drive to Dhak village to start the trek.6 km trek to lower Chitrakhana starts from Dhak. The valley opens up after climbing quite steeply to an overhanging cliff which shelters a local deity. The route enters progressively drier terrain. Overnight stay in tents in Chitrakhantha

  • Day 3 : Chitrakhana to Tail Top

    4 KM trek from Chitrakhantha to Tali top above 11070 ft
    Indulge yourself in a strenuous 6 km and a 4 hour trek through lush green vegetation, mostly pink and white rhododendron flowers.
    Witness the mesmerizing Mt. Nanda Devi and Mt. Doonagiri. An exhilarating experience ti witness.
    Camping in the alpine meadow at the head of the Tali Top which lies on the North Face of Mt. Nanda Devi and Other higher mountains. Overnight stay in tents.

  • Day 4 : Tali top to Kuari pass and back to Tali top (15 km Trek, 8 hrs)

    Trek for 15 km from Tali top to Kuari pass and back to Tali top via Khullara top
    Post breakfast start your trek to Kuari pass.
    Initially easy trail to reach the khullar place and then a steep climb to khullara top.
    Trail through the snow patch to reach the Kuari pass top. Spend some time feeling the jet wind.
    Ascend back to the camp.

  • Day 5 : Tali to Joshimath via Auli (8 km, 4hrs.)

    Trek from Tali top to Joshimath above 6724 ft
    After having breakfast, trek downhill along the Rishi Ganga River to reach Joshimath.
    View the awesomeness of Auli (famous for skiing) on the way to Joshimath.

  • Day 6: Joshimath to Haridwar

    Will leave to Haridwar from Joshimath, and this comes as and end of memorable trip.

Inclusions/Exclusions

  • Inclusions
    • Transport to and from the base camp

    • First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, Walkie-Talkie etc. will be available at campsite.

    • Stay is included from Day 1 to Last Day. Tents/Homestays/lodges will be provided. Tripple sharing Accommodation and separate accommodation for girls/ladies will be provided

    • All meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast at Last day are included. Veg food will be provided during the trek.

    • Permits/ Forest fees

    • Qualified trek leaders having advanced mountaineering courses certificates/ degrees

    • Other staff member includes qualified cooks, helpers and porters.

    • GST extra.

    • Food during transit to and from the base camp

    • Food would not be provided during transit and trekkers have to bear the cost at their own.

    • Generally, we expect trekkers to carry their bag-pack and luggage themselves. For those who wish to use Mule/Porter need to pay extra.

    • Any kind of personal expenses.

    • Anything not mentioned in inclusions.

    • Any kind of transportation/ accommodation apart from mention in package.

    • Coverage includes medical expenses, emergency evacuation, hospitalization, and rescue expenses.

Things To Carry

Warm clothes (fleece jacket, thermal innerwear, gloves, and cap)

Raincoat or poncho

Comfortable trekking shoes with good grip

Backpack (30-40 liters) with rain cover

Water bottle (2 liters)

Snacks (energy bars, chocolates, and dry fruits)

Personal toiletries (toilet paper, sunscreen, and lip balm)

First aid kit (with medicines for altitude sickness, pain relief, and bandages)

Important Note

  • Avoid consuming heavy meals or alcoholic beverages during the trekking.

  • The sport is not advisable for individuals with the medical conditions like recent fractures, dislocations, high blood pressure, asthma, neurological disorders, epilepsy, heart problems, pregnancy, and osteoporosis.

  • Give careful attention to the trek guide/ leader instructions.
